I love Geneva. To me, it is a charming city with grandiose architecture, sprawling roads, & wonderful parks. It was late Autumn when I visited, & the ground was adorned with hues of orange & red leaves.
I had an odd sense of deja vu walking through some of the streets, it felt like a mix of some of the buildings I had seen in the Ukraine, & Russia. (Scroll down to see some of the pictures from the trip).
Recommendations for the top 6 places to visit on a short trip to Geneva (from a Genevan) :
- Palais de Nation
- Red cross
- Plain palais
- The old city
- The Geneva Jet
- CERN (for geeks 🙂
Thoughts on Exploring
I never really saw travelling about Europe as ‘travelling’ in the real sense of the word. To me, it was more like a trip to the other end of town.
Madagascar, Vietnam, Tanzania, Samarkand, Greenland– these were places that I looked at as an adventure. Places where ones vision would blur from the unfamiliarity, before coming into focus with a better understanding.
However, if you really think about it: Travel is a state of mind. An outlook. And exploration is a mix of curiosity, delight, & inspiration. In a word, Joy.
So, my message to you is: Explore everywhere. Your room, your home, your family, friends, the dusty books that are waiting to be read, your town, & everywhere beyond.
Open your mind. Look at things with fresh eyes. Experiment with ideas.
Because there’s so much we can learn from our immediate settings, not just from travelling far away. Although, I do believe that distance does allow for a bit of different learning. In essence, exploration can happen anywhere, you can find something wondrous in your backyard, if you look hard enough.
I’m pretty sure those Pokemon monsters are still about.

Ps. ANNECY, A DAY TRIP
Annecy is a small picturesque alpine town in Southeastern France
If you have spare time, France makes for a wonderful day trip. You won’t regret it! It takes about 2 hours to reach Annecy, which is a beautiful alpine town in Southeastern France.
The beautiful medieval old town- Vieille Ville has cobbled streets, winding canals and pastel-colored houses. The Lake Annecy feeds into the Thiou River, making this an incredibly picturesque place. Do visit if you can.
