Some places in London have a wow factor to them, such as Sketch in an 18th century townhouse that used to house Dior.
Now a gorgeous restaurant, with charming themed rooms, delicious dishes, & a favourite for afternoon tea. It is the brain child of restaurateur Mourad Mazouz and master chef Pierre Gagnaire.
Most Londoner’s will know of the pink room, known as The Gallery, and the trendy toilets which look like spaceships.
Enter the enchanted Glade, a themed room recreating magical woodlands & designed by founder Mourad Mazouz, & Artists Carolyn Quartermaine and Didier Mahieu.
It was originally made in 2012, but has recently undergone a redesign. The colours and ambience will capture your imagination.
I went for brunch recently, & loved the decor. The walls are a rich emerald green, with jewel tones of purple, & cobalt blue dotted around the room.
As you walk in your feet sink in to the thick woodland grass carpet with pine needles. This was designed by visual artist and sculptor Alexandra Kehayoglou.
The enchantment is completed by musical notes coming from a pink self- playing piano which was handcrafted by Dio Davies.
GLADES // FOOD & SERVICE
The brunch menu is imaginitive, creative & varied- so you will lots of great options to choose from. French master chef Pierre Gagnaire culinary genius & creativity shows in the inspired dishes.
You can choose from sweet and savoury options, or have both like we did!
I am usually quite a fussy eater. Not one of the dishes we ordered here disappointed, the food was beautifully presented and full of flavour.
The Burrata, with tomatoes & basil was scrumptious. And don’t get me started on the Avocado with pink Madagascan prawns, grapefruit & wasabi mayonnaise.
I also loved the 9 Conduit st black croque- a beautifully presented Sketch signature dish. Made with squid ink bread, mozarella, basil, tomato, & courgette. Delish! (see pics above and below).9 Conduit st black croque~ a Sketch signature dishGrilled Organic Madagascan prawns with lemon and a type of chilli dip.
The Avocalicious smoothie (above) made with avocado, yoghurt, lime, & agave is a creamy smoothie. I had it with a utterly delicious dish of Madagascan prawns, grapefruit, avocado, & wasabi mayonnaise. Mouth-watering..
The dessert menu at Sketch doesn’t disappoint. We had some delicious desserts and tea after brunch. You can also try the aromatic coffee, some sourced from Hawaii & Jamaica.
The Pistachio Religiouse was a choux pastry filled with pistachio cream, orange jam, & pistachio praline. Seriously yum!
Pistachio Chox //Sadly my camera started malfunctioning so I had to switch to phone pics.
Also loved the Victoria sponge cake, filled with strawberries, vanilla chantilly & raspberry jam.
The Gateau Chocolat with caramel was also a favourite: chocolate caramel mousse, with hazelnut, & caramel marmalade. Some wonderful combinations.
Delicious dishes, amazing service, with attentive & friendly staff who looked after our every need.
This is definitely one of the best places in London for brunch, and would be perfect for a date too.
You are in for a real treat. I shall definitely be back for more! 🙂
