THE CRAFTS & BRITISH MAKERS || DEMONSTRATIONS
Holly Frean is a visual artist working with a variety of mediums, from oil paints, gouache, printmaking to 3d work. Graduated from The City and Guilds of Art London with a fine Art degree, Holly is known for her whimsical and spirited drawings.
Her loose yet insightfully observed images have won her numerous accolades and prizes, including the National Open Art Competition Painting Prize which she won in 2012. (~via Burberry)
Pedro da Costa Felgueiras is a paint and lacquer expert. He established his Lacquer Studios in 1995; specialising in Oriental & European lacquer as well as historic paint techniques.
Having built his reputation restoring objects for museums and private clients, more recently Pedro has turned his attention to creating bespoke pieces. He uses materials and methods that are part of the centuries-old traditions of paint craftsmen.
Pedro’s research focuses on workshop manuals and treatises from the past, collecting rare old pigments and revived lost methods of paint application and lacquer. With this wealth of knowledge and painstaking dedication, he now uses the labour-intensive techniques of the past to produce modern pieces?of singular beauty and integrity. (~via Burberry)
Nice touch with the yellow socks!
Inspiration for the Burberry collection
Burberry has collaborated with The New Craftsmen, & created a lovely pop up to showcase fashion & british craft. It is at Makers house -a lovely space in Soho, formerly the Foyles bookstore. The pop up is open till September 27th, I definitely recommend if you have time to go!
There are daily crafts demonstrations from British makers & artists which gives you a real taste of the love & work that goes into creating these exceptional pieces. It’s art..all of it!!
Upstairs you can check out the latest Burberry collection fresh off the runway. Lot’s of brocade, ruffles, bell sleeves, tassles, & florals. I hear that the inspiration behind the collection was Virginia Wolf.
And if you’re a little peckish- the Thomas Burberry cafe has a selection of cakes, & nibbles. I’d check out the garden – it is equally lovely, & dotted with sculptures.
