My sister & I did lot’s of walking in Paris, just to take the city in. And get a feel for it’s rhythm. We didn’t do much planning. We wanted an authentic experience of the city, so we tried to avoid the tourist sites as much as possible. More pics from the trip in my Parisian Photo diary post.

It was such a nice surprise, coming across Bread & Roses on our wanders. I had read about Bread & Roses before, a popular bakery-cafe-tea room with a well heeled clientele. It is just opposite the Luxembourg Gardens, which we explored. Great location. The landscape gardening is beautiful. Symmetry everywhere. Parisians were doing exercise, and practicing the careful movements of Tai Chi (Chinese Martial Arts) in the Gardens.

One thing Paris reminded me of was old school flair, reminiscent of the old world. I know, that just like London there are areas in Paris that one would rather not go to.  But Paris on the whole has the feel of an elegant city, a bit dusty, a bit tattered around the edges, but all the same a really fabulous read! At times I felt it was a bit like Ukraine, or like St Petersburg in Russia. I suppose the Slavic countries did have some western influence, with Peter the Great taking inspiration from the West.

There was time for a quick hot drink, we both chose a fragrant tea with Vanilla. It did not disappoint. Sadly, there was no time to sample the cakes, of which I have heard lot’s of good things. The staff were attentive, I liked the service. We then dashed back to the hotel to grab our bags, in time to catch the Eurostar back to London. I shall be visiting again, on my next trip to Paris!

Do check this place out if you are in the area. And try exploring Paris off the beaten track. You will discover gems!

  • The all so beautiful town of Paris! Loved seeing your photos, dear.
Matter of fact, the architecture of certain buildings in Paris remind me of a town in Bulgaria..most probably our Elite has been influenced by the West quite a lot, particular France which explains the amount of French words in my language.
I can’t wait for you to tell me everything about your trip!
