VILLA GAETA, MONTEVARCHI
Villa Gaeta is located in Montevarchi, on the slopes of the hills of Chianti Valdarno. It was originally built in the seventeenth century and enlarged in the following century. It is surrounded by an arboretum of about three hectares, the Pinetum , a collection of conifers planted in the nineteenth century by Giuseppe Gaeta, lawyer and lover of botany. Today, it’s owner is Bruno Boretti, an architect who is working on it’s restoration to former splendor.
As you walk through the rooms, large windows let through blocks of light which fall create shapes on the floor tiles. The eye meets contemporary shapes in an art deco setting. The walls are covered in a mixture of oil paintings. Modernity & history all comes together here with a heavy dose of charm. The gardens are probably my favorite part of the Villa. The pictures do it no justice!
